Role of Lycopene in Hypertension

 Role of Lycopene

  In Hypertension

Lycopene is a bioactive red pigment found
In plants in red fruits and vegetables
eg Tomato pink Guava Papaya and
 watermelon.

            Hypertension

A systolic blood pressure of more than 140
mm Hg or Dystolic blood pressure of 90
mmHg or both is known as High Blood
Pressure.
High blood pressure is promoted by
Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol
,and smoking.it is third leading cause of
Mortality from cardiovascular disease.
Hypertension is also a major cause of
  Stroke and renal failure.
       Hypertension is associated with
Oxidative stress and inflammatory
Processes.

   Chronic Hypertension

Can cause
1 Renal Failure
2 LVH Left Ventricular Failure
3 CHD Cardiovascular Heart didease
4 HF Heart Failure
5 Stroke
6 Retinopathy
        Hypertension developed by
Oxidative stress lowers nitric oxide
Resulting in endothelial dysfunction
All promote hypertension .

Lycopene Advantages.

Reduces oxidative stress increases Nitric
Oxide generation in endothelium acting
As antioxidant and decreases blood
Pressure.

In a Korean study 299 men showed
Significant reduction in their blood pressure
After 8 weeks of 15mg /day Lycopene
Supplementation.
