Know Your Blood Reports Series 1 RBC

                               Know Your Blood Reports

Generally your physicians recommends CBC blood test CBC means complete blood

Count .For this test patient need not fast  unless it is ask by doctor along with ESR.

       Examination of CBC includes

       RBC. Ref blood cells.coint

       Hemoglobin

        Hematocrit

WBC.   White blood cell count Total and Differential

         Platelet count

Today we will concentrate  to know only Red Blood Cells

We will know where they are produce?

What are the functions of RBC?

What is the total number of RBC ?

           What is their life span?

            Where they are destroyed ?

Last but not the least How to Read

               RBC report

Red Blood Cells are produce in Bone
  Marrow.

They are also called Erythrocyte Red blood cells are red due to a pigments called hemoglobin .

Average person is having 5 liters of blood  .40% of the blood volume is

Occupied by red.blood cells.5% of the

Blood    Volume is occupied by white blood cells and platelets.

The liquid portion of the blood is.called plasma occupied 55%of the blood volume.

Blood main function is transport and also

Defence against infection.

RBC functions each red blood cell is having large amount of hemoglobin a pigments protein contains iron. Hemoglobin  is having efficient binding capacity with oxygen when oxygen concentration is high
As in lungs and releasing oxygen when the oxygen concentration is low eg tissues.

Tissues are group of cells having a.similar size.shape and function eg muscle bone skin etc

The above dual property of hemoglobin
Helps it to distribute oxygen to tissues and take carbon dioxide from tissue and send it to lungs and In  exchange to take oxygen from lung.
Oxyhemoglobin is formed when oxygen combines with Hemoglobin ,thus oxygenated red coloration of blood is seen in arteries and darker colour blood in vein
As it contains unbound from of deoxygenated hemoglobin.
.
Let us know the life span of red blood cells

Which is 120days.

As red blood cells age it is.trapped in small blood vessels in the spleen and other organs and destroyed.

Most of the components of hemoglobin are reused.

The number of  Red Blood Cells are measured /liter of blood .This range is different for male and female .

Male RBC 4.50---6.5 x10^12

Female RBC  3.80----5.80x10^12

It means in male red blood cells count is 4.5xtwelve zeros after one /liter of blood

Now how to read RBC report

Your blood report number 4.60 x10^12/liter

This reading is within.normal range for male and female .

Second example if blood report is 4.00x10^12 this is normal for female but less count for male hope this is simple.

Now if RBC count is low  patient is anemic

Feel weakness fatigue  .Body has to work harder to get enough oxygen.

If RBC count higher than the range condition is called as polycythemia

Causes low oxygen levels.

Before visiting doctor you would have some idea about your report.

Next information is about Hemoglobin report.
