ESR is blood test means Erythrocyte sedimentation rate,Erythrocyte means Red Blood Cells .
For test blood is put in a specific tube which is graduated .When blood is filled in a tube and kept vertically blood with anticoagulant will not allow blood to clot and red blood cells settle down over 60 minutes time ,after 60minutes reading is observed called ESR
For male normal reading is from 0 mm/hour to 10mm /hour
For females the reading is 0 to 20 mm/hour.
Erythrocyte are negatively charged and repel each other normally.
But in inflammation or Rheumatoid arthritis ESR increases large clumps of RBC
Fall faster.
