GERD (Acid Reflux)

 

GERD  also called acid reflux

Gastro esophageal reflux disorder

Gastro pertaining to stomach  esophageal 

Means food pipe 

Reflux is acidic gastric fluid that flows 

Backwards into the oesophagus resulting 

In heart burn. 

GERD  is one of the most common digestive 

Disorder .

Life style factors may increase the reflux 

Disease .

1) Habit of quick eating.

2 ) Extra salt on regular meals.

3   ) Lack of sleep.

4) Use of white bread.

  Poor Habits  can worsen GERD and reduce treatment Efficacy

1)  Fast eating

2  ) Eating  beyond  full ness

3) Eating very hot foods
4) High BMI

5) Lying down soon after eating .

6) Smoking.

Life  style modifications 

1) Raising head end of the bed

   2)Avoiding  meals within 3hours of bed time.

3)   weight loss 

4) Turn off lights when in  bed and minimize 

      Disturbances to a normal sleep.

5 ) Sleep reduces GERD by suppressing 

     Transient lower esophageal  sphincter

        relaxations.

   Lower esophageal sphincter means 
    Door like device at the lower part of food pipe 
  Sphincter  if   relaxces  gastric acid  or bile
 May get entry into food pipe .

  1. Nice and simple explanation of why GERD occurs, one could see GERD common in young people because of the mentioned lifestyle in this fast pace competitive world.
