Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic Syndrome represents worldwide

Public health issue , characterized by a set of 

Cardiovascular risk factors including obesity,

Diabetes , dyslipidemia ,hypertension and 

Impaired glucose tolerance.


Metabolic syndrome is a risk

Factor for type 2 diabetes

,Cardiovascular disease 

and  premature mortality

  Metabolic Syndrome known as Syndrome X

,Insulin resistance


WHO Def :Pathological conditionCharacterized by  abdominal      obesity insulin resistance hypertension  and hyperlipidemia.

Basic forces  spreading  this malady

1 Increase in consumption of high calorie

    ---low fiber fast food.

2 Decrease in physical activity due 

    Mechanized transportations and sedentary

    activities.

   Syndrome --Spread Type 2

        Diabetes  Coronary

        Diseases , Stroke

Among all non communicable diseases


Metabolic syndrome had been the real

Scourge globally.


Metabolic syndrome ,syndrome X,

Insulin resistance Defined

As per NCEP; National Cholesterol Education

Programs  ATP3 2005

Presence of any 3 or more of the

Following 

1 Blood Glucose greater than 100mg/dl

     Or drug treatment For elevated blood

     Glucose .

2  HDL Cholesterol less than. 40mg/dl

     In men

     Less than 50 mg/dl  Women 
    Or drug treatment for low HDL Cholesterol

3    Blood Triglycerides greater. Than 

       150mg/dl or drug treatment for elevated

        Triglycerides.


4 waist greater than 102 Cm men

Or 88cms (women)


5  Blood Pressure greater than 130/85 mm Ng

     Or drug treatment for Hypertension

 Cooking skills should be taught

To the students in high school/college 

Without learning to cook healthy

Yet enjoyable food,the dependency on fast

Food cannot be controlled.
