Let us start with a  often recommended test by cardiologist Lipid profile Lipid profile is perceived as a test for cholesterol ,yes right but cholesterol

Could be total cholesterol ,Good Cholesterol ,and Bad cholesterol

Total cholesterol or Serum cholesterol

Total cholesterol report shows number if the report is normal

It should be.between two numbers a range from  lower number  to a higher number.

Let us.study  how the Lipid profile report is presented

Lipid profile:

1) Total Cholesterol
      Observed value 244mg/dl

Normal range value 125 to 200mg/dl

mg/dl means milligram of cholesterol /100 ml

In above case observed value has cross the

Limit

2) Hdl cholesterol this is also refer as Good

Cholesterol

Healthy level for good cholesterol  for men  HDL 40mg/dl

    Or higher

Healthy level for women 50mg/dl  or higher

If observed value is 43mg/dl  it is healthy for man

So it is normal. But if same reading is of woman it is
    Not healthy level

3) LDL cholesterol  also called simply bad cholesterol

Healthy level for LDL or bad cholesterol less than 100mg/dl

If observed value is 156mg/dl
It is not healthy level

4) Triglycerides are type of fat found in.your blood

High Triglycerides .might raise.your risk of heart disease ,diabetes

Healthy level for Triglycerides  less than 150mg/dl

Border line high 150 to 199mg/dl

   High. 200  to 499mg/dl

Very High  500 mg/dl and above

If observed value is 300mg/dl

It comes under high level

Risk for coronary disease:

  Is calculated by ratio

Total Cholesterol/HDL cholesterol

Low risk. If ratio less than 5.1

High Risk if more than 8

Moderate Risk above 5.1and less than.8

So in.short when.you get Lipid profile report.

You would look  your report if it is within normal range  or it falls

Unhealthy.level .
