Triglyceride Glucose Index

Triglyceride Glucose Index is useful since it is simple surrogate marker for insulin resistance.

Ref 1 kim et al 2017 Cardiovascular Diabetology (2017)16:108

Kim et al 2017
Triglyceride Glucose Index has been considered a simple surrogate marker of insulin resistance.
Kim et al 2017 concluded that TyG index is more independently associated with the presence of coronary artery atherosclerosis.

         Da young Lee ,et al

Da Young etal 2016.R2016.Reported subject with high TyG index had a high Risk of diabetes

Sub groups with TyG Index greater than or.equal to.8.8

Regardless of obesity had a significantly high Risk of diabetes (HR 2.4 p =O.024)

And 2.25 for obesity p=0.048

Determination of the TyG index was based on the formula
Ln (Fasting Tryglyceride (mg/dl) x Fasting Glucose mg/dl)/2

Association between Triglyceride Glucose Index and arterial stiffness in Korean adults
  Cardiovasc Diabetol 2018 : 17(1) 41

Published 2018 March 21

The TyG index is more independently associated with increased arterial stiffness than HOMA-IR in Korean adults.
Arterial stiffness measured on brachial ankle pluse wave velocity.(bapwv)

The TyG index is useful as insulin test is costly .

How to calculate TyG Index?

Ln(Triglyceride fasting mg/deci lit x1/2 fasting glucose )

L et us solve one example  suppose Triglyceride fasting 200 mg /deci lit

     Fasting blood Glucose 130mg/deci lit

         300x130/2=19500

      Log e 19500

     refer net.to calculate

And 9.87 and above 8.8 so high Risk for diabetes even 8.8 is risky number

      Less.than 8.8 TyG index is.safe normal .
